Indiana recently passed legislation making it the 32nd state that has banned texting while driving.  Officials from the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration state that texting is a leading type of “distracted driving,” which, according to the NHTSA, is reportedly involved in approximately 20% of all automobile accidents.  And the effect of using a cellphone while driving is not insignificant: a driver distracted by a cellphone or similar device has his or her reactions delayed to the same extent as if that driver had a blood alcohol content at the legal limit of 0.8%.

For more information about the Department of Transportation’s initiative regarding distracted driving, please review the DOT’s website.
